Small Business solutions
Website design and development
Small business is always benefited by an online representation. However, there are not that many websites out there that can fully utilize their potential.
Characteristics of a great website:
- Clarity. Within the first 5 seconds of visiting a website its main purpose should be clear to the user.
- Navigation. It should be easy to understand what kind of information does the website offer and where eactly it is located. User should be able to bookmark any page they want for subsequent visits. Address for any page should be as simple as possible and should serve as an additional way to inform the user where they are located.
- Content. Content should be appropriate to the website's line of business, giving the most important content a priority. For example, restaurant's phone number should be prominently visible. The phone number should be displayed as a text, not an image, so that search engines can properly interpret it.
- Behind the scenes. Not all websites are coded equally. What may look great to a human eye could be unclear to a search service such as Google. A good website will have clear and valid page source that is easily understood by search engines and various browsers. Web pages that are created by programs such as Front Page often produce source code that is impossible for a machine to interpret.
- SEO. Search engine optimization will give website a chance to tell the world about it in the most efficient way. Google, Yahoo and other search engines pay attention to proper use of page keywords, description and linkage. Moderation is the key - you don't want to overdo with the keywords or hook up with shady SEO firms that promise you quick results by rigging the system, it does not work.
- Maintainability. Once developed it should be easy for the website owner to change content. A good site of a website well implemented is how easy it is to add or modify a feature.
